Phil Ivey’s Accomplishments and Poker Legacy

Even though many people consider Phil Ivey the best poker player on the planet it wasn’t until his 2009 World Series of Poker run, and his eclipsing of Daniel Negreanu on the all-time tournament money list that Ivey’s skill and talent rally sunk in.

Look at Ivey’s major accomplishments in the tournament arena:

· 7 WSOP Bracelets
· 7th place finish in the 2009 WSOP Main Event –tied for 6th all-time
· 1 World Poker Tour (WPT) title
· 8 WPT final tables
· 1st place 2005 Monte Carlo Millions
· 1st place 2005 Full Tilt Poker Monte Carlo Invitational
· Over $12.8 million in total tournament earnings –All-time leader

What makes these results so impressive is that Ivey is mainly a cash game player! A cash game player who is the all-time tournament money leader! While Ivey’s live cash games results are impossible to track he is considered the biggest winner in the highest stakes games played, and his cash games results most certainly surpass his tournament results.

While we can’t track Phil’s results in live cash games, we do have a good idea of his online earnings thanks to highstakesdb.com. The site has Ivey’s winnings since 2007 –when they started tracking results—at $15.5 million!

With what we know of Ivey’s results it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Ivey could be in the $50 million area when it comes to lifetime poker earnings: And that doesn’t include his stake in Full Tilt Poker or other business endeavors.

Ivey’s results sometimes mask the fact that he is only 33 years old. In poker terms Ivey is child, with decades to play the game at a high level. Ivey has the chance to put almost every poker record completely out of reach; cementing his legacy as the greatest poker player of all-time.

With cash game stakes getting larger and larger, and dozens of tournaments with million dollar plus first-prizes, Phil Ivey is sitting on the poker throne with lesser players basically bringing him tribute. Ivey’s career totals could easily double any other players. While other players rake in a lot of money, Ivey has somehow managed to combine this with achievement; a rarity in the poker world. Ivey doesn’t just win, he utterly dominates every aspect of poker –online cash games, high-stakes cash games, major tournaments, and still makes time to keep his name out there with numerous appearances on shows like High Stakes Poker.

To be considered the best poker player of all-time at 33 is an amazing feat, and if Ivey is capable of continuing on with even a fraction of his current results, his legacy will be cemented as the greatest poker player who ever lived: Ivey is fast becoming the Wayne Gretzky, Muhammad Ali, or Michael Jordan of the poker world: The hands-down best, no argument needed!
